Make a Difference Through Volunteering

Make a Difference While Experiencing Real Sri Lankan Village Life Our Volunteer Program offers travelers the opportunity to spend time in a rural Sri Lankan community, support local educational activities, and experience the everyday life, culture, nature, and traditions of Sri Lanka. The main focus of our program is supporting English education for village children. Volunteers can participate in school lessons, community English classes, educational activities, and other suitable community programs. We believe volunteering should be a meaningful exchange. Volunteers share their knowledge, skills, time, and experience, while learning about Sri Lankan culture and local community life.

Our English Teaching Program gives volunteers the opportunity to help local children develop their basic English language and communication skills.

Many children in rural areas have limited opportunities to practice speaking English outside the classroom. Volunteers can provide a friendly environment where children can practice English through simple conversations and enjoyable activities.

Activities may include

  • Basic English lessons
  • Speaking and conversation practice
  • Vocabulary development
  • Reading and writing activities
  • Pronunciation practice
  • Storytelling
  • Educational games
  • Songs and creative activities
  • Group activities
  • Simple presentations
  • Everyday English communication

The lessons are adapted according to the children’s age, English level, and learning needs.

Depending on the volunteer’s schedule and the local arrangements, volunteers may participate in both school-based and community-based lessons.

  • School Lessons
  • Volunteers can assist with educational activities for children at local schools.
  • Community English Classes
  • Community classes provide additional opportunities for children to practice English outside their normal school environment.
  • These classes may be organized in a local community space and can include children from nearby villages.
  • The exact timetable and location will be arranged before the volunteer program begins.

We encourage volunteers to make learning enjoyable and interactive.

Instead of relying only on traditional classroom teaching, volunteers can use activities such as:

  • English games
  • Team activities
  • Storytelling
  • Drawing and creative activities
  • Role-playing
  • Question-and-answer activities
  • Conversation games
  • Vocabulary games
  • Simple competitions
  • Cultural exchange activities

The objective is to help children feel comfortable using English and develop confidence in communication.

Our program is suitable for people who are interested in education, community development, cultural exchange, and working with children.

Volunteers may include:

  • English-speaking travelers
  • Students
  • Teachers
  • University students
  • Backpackers
  • Retired professionals
  • Travelers with professional skills
  • People interested in community projects
  • Anyone who would like to share their knowledge and time

Previous teaching experience can be helpful, but it is not always necessary for basic volunteer activities.

The most important qualities are patience, respect, responsibility, friendliness, and a genuine interest in helping others.

Volunteers are expected to:

  • Arrive on time for scheduled activities
  • Prepare simple and suitable learning activities
  • Encourage children to participate
  • Be patient and respectful
  • Follow the instructions of the local coordinator
  • Respect school and community rules
  • Respect Sri Lankan culture and traditions
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with children
  • Follow photography and privacy guidelines
  • Help create a safe and positive learning environment

Volunteers should understand that the program is a community activity and should work together with local coordinators and teachers.

We offer flexible volunteer programs depending on the volunteer’s available time and interests.
